About This Class

Bring a dead lamp back to life and learn real electrical skills in the process. In this hands-on workshop, you'll completely disassemble a lamp, identify its electrical components, replace the cord and socket, rewire it safely, and test your work with a multimeter before plugging it in. Along the way, you'll learn the difference between hot and neutral wires, how to strip and connect wires properly, and how to test electrical work safely. No prior experience required — just a willingness to learn. You'll leave with a working lamp and the confidence to tackle basic electrical repairs at home. Bring your own lamp if you have one gathering dust — or we'll have a few loaners available for practice. This is a repair class, not a lecture. You will not leave without a working lamp.

What You'll Learn

Safety briefing and electrical fundamentals — hot vs neutral, polarization, why it matters (15 min) | Lamp anatomy walkthrough — instructor disassembles a demo lamp, names every part (10 min) | Students disassemble their own lamps, identify components (20 min) | Demonstration: stripping wire, Underwriters knot, terminal connections (15 min) | Students rewire — cord through base, UL knot, socket wiring, plug attachment (40 min) | Instructor circulates for one-on-one checks during hands-on | Multimeter testing — continuity check and polarity verification (15 min) | Plug in and test — moment of truth (10 min) | Troubleshooting any non-working lamps as a group (10 min) | Cleanup and Q&A — what else can you fix at home?
